NEW Thalassa Park Playground, Aberfoyle Park

IT’S ABERFOYLE PARK’S TURN FOR A NEW NATURE THEMED PLAYGROUND! There’s been some controversy around the newly re-vamped Thalassa Park Playground in Aberfoyle Park. Many residents to the area haven’t been impressed by the new nature themed playground, feeling that a lot has been missed in the $320,000 improvements. Being locals we had to go and check it out for ourselves and here’s our findings.

It’s the ideal family park

Compared to the old playground my two little park lovers, and I, think that the upgrade is simply fantastic and we all give it two thumbs up!

The new and contemporary equipment includes a timber climbing structure with netting, a basket swing, a large enclosed embankment slide and a shaded big bird platform with a double slide and rope nest. There’s wooden seating areas for the adults to watch their little ones play (if they let you sit down and relax that is!) All set out in a spacious setting.

The lack of the flying fox and swing set was a slight disappointment, more so for the older kids, and the metal slides did worry me with our Adelaide heat. But all-in-all it really is a great and well-designed playground for the area.

Come for a play, stay for the day

Thalassa park not only offers the playground, there’s large sweeping grounds featuring BBQ’s, tables, shaded areas and toilets. Making Thalassa park perfect for your family picnic or birthday party. There’s also walking tracks and cycling tracks and across from the playground there’s a gorgeous little garden full of plants and flowers, with little paths throughout – a great place to spot fairies, my girls thought!

The Story Book Walk

Set not too far from the playground you’ll also find Thalassa’s Story Book Walk. Take a trip down memory lane with artwork replicating some of the classic books from our childhood, such as Mem Fox’s Possum Magic and Grug.

Thalassa park really is a great spot for all ages.
